Regarding the ion chamber, why tea and cookie cans for the radiation detector? Has anyone experimented with different can types?

I use the tin cans because solder will adhere to the tin and the interior surface is conductive. You should have no problem using other types of cans, but remember that beer cans, soup cans, coffee cans all have a coating on the interior that will have to be removed since it will act like an insulator. Also you will not be able to solder to them so it makes adding the shield for the electronic section harder to add.
